Stockholm, 2 June 2026 Mr. Gay Sweden returns in 2026, after six years of silence. Applications are open now through 15 August 2026 at mrgaysweden.se.
The competition returns because the moment demands it. Across Europe, rights that took generations to win are being rolled back: Pride banned or restricted in Hungary and Turkey, queer life criminalised in Russia, years of "LGBT-free zones" in Poland. In Sweden, the public language around LGBTQI people has hardened, and conversion therapy remains legal in 2026. Mr. Gay Sweden's answer is visibility: real names and real faces on a national stage.
“The rights we have today were fought for by people who were tired, scared, and showed up anyway," says Haris Eloy, spokesperson and Executive Producer of Mr. Gay Sweden. "The timing of our return is not a coincidence. It's the reason. You don't need to represent every issue or speak for everyone. You need to know what you stand for and why.”
The 2026 competition is open to everyone over 18 who identifies as a man and has legal residence in Sweden. It runs in both Swedish and English. Contestants compete across seven challenges: Media, Talent, Confidence, Knowledge, Campaign, Public Vote, and the finale challenge The Winner Takes It All.
Four awards are presented: Mr. Gay Sweden, the title, which includes representing Sweden at Mr. Gay Europe 2027 with travel and accommodation covered; Mr. Influencer, for the strongest genuine connection with the public; The Heart of Pride, awarded by the judging panel; and Mr. Congeniality, voted by the contestants themselves.
The finale takes place in autumn 2026. Finalists, challenge briefs, and event details will be announced on mrgaysweden.se and the competition's official channels.
Mr. Gay Sweden is organised by HE PR and Communication AB. The 2026 edition is produced by Haris Eloy together with NK, who leads partnerships and competition logistics.
